Sansui 2000x

Postby roc017 » Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:26 pm

Hello everyone.....I just joined.

This looks like a very interesting site and as I am now the new owner of a vintage Sansui 2000x I was hoping I could chat about that and get a few questions answered by the experts of which I am NOT.

The receiver supports 4 pair of speakers and it seems that no matter how I wired up a pair for testing, the right side produces very loud cracking and popping sounds. Additionally, a couple of the small bulbs are out so i plan to replace them tomorrow when the local Radio Shack opens in the a.m. I guess my question is what causes this popping and cracking sound, and is it worth repairing if it needs to visit the local stero hospital in my town? I paid $20 for it at an estate sale today and was told that it was owned by the newly departed who was in his nineties....so I don't see him, even in the late 1960's when he probably bought it, abusing it in any way. I mean it's certainly possible and I'm just speculating that part.....but everything about the place (many instruments - violins, other strings, etc.) point to a person who loved the arts and all things classical.

Thanks for any input on this!

Hi - Sorry for the delay, I was on vacation. The 2000X can be bought today, in good condition with wood cabinet, for about $75, so don't spend any more than that fixing it. Instead, if you're interested in vintage gear and have $100 to spend, take a look at a Pioneer SX-780. They made TONS of this particular model and it's not only a better receiver than the 2000x, it will come with less problems for you to waste time and money with. If you have more than $100, feel free to contact me hificollector88 [at] gmail.com and I'll be happy to recommend some other gear for you to kick-start your collection.

Thanks for chiming in!

Cheers!
